The herd began with two goats, and grew over the course of 2013 to become fourteen goats and their one pet hen. Here you can learn a little bit about each one.

 

Carl

Likely born in 2011 or 2012. Joined in December of 2012 with his buddy Phil. One of the original goats in the herd. Still can be skittish. Carl’s horns grow to the sides, and his coat is black with small, white spots. Current best guess: Nigerian dwarf/Kiko cross.

Phil

Likely born in 2011 or 2012. Joined in the December of 2012 with his buddy Carl. One of the original goats in the herd. Phil’s horns grew to the sides, and his coat was brown and white. Phil was the first of the goats to pass, in February of 2023. Current best guess: Nigerian dwarf/Kiko cross.

Chester

Likely born in 2011 or 2012. Joined in February of 2013 with his brother Lefty, an so one of the earliest goats in the herd. Herd king emeritus. “Maybe daddy” to Atho & Winter. Chews clothing and hair. Chester’s horns grow back and curve outward, and his coat is white. Current best guess: Pygmy/Saanen cross.

Lefty

Likely born in 2011 or 2012. Joined in February of 2013 with his brother Chester, and so one of the earliest goats in the herd. “Maybe daddy” to Atho & Winter. Lefty’s horns grow back and curve outward, and his coat is black with one white boot. Current best guess: Pygmy/Sable cross.

Bailey

Likely born in 2010 or 2011. Joined in March of 2013 with Duchess. Mom to Clover and Precious. Herd co-queen? Great “starter” goat. Bailey was disbudded by her original farm, and her coat is tan and white with black accents. Pygmy.

Duchess

Likely born in 2012. Joined in March of 2013 with Bailey. Mom to Atho and Winter. Herd co-queen? Duchess’ horns grow back, and her coat is black with white accents. She also has wattles. Pygmy.

Dusty

Born in January of 2013. Joined in April of 2013 with his brother Hickory. One of the first skittish goats to become social. Herd king by dethroning Chester. Dusty’s horns grow back, and his coat is tan and white. Dusty also has wattles. Current best guess: Pygmy/Nigerian dwarf cross.

Hickory

Born in January of 2013. Joined in April of 2013 with his brother Dusty. One of the first skittish goats to become social. Hickory’s horns grow straight up, and his coat is tan with black accents. Hickory also has wattles. Current best guess: Pygmy/Nigerian dwarf cross.

Bambi

Born on April 25, 2013. Joined in April of 2013 with her brother Cooper, at 4-days old (staying for good at 2-weeks), our only bottle babies. Intensely social. Duchess’ rival. Bambi’s horns grow back, and her coat is a ruddy brown. Nigerian dwarf.

Cooper

Born on April 25, 2013. Joined in April of 2013 with his sister Bambi, at 4-days old (staying for good at 2-weeks), our only bottle babies. Intensely social and curious. Cooper’s horns grow back, and his coat is brown with white markings. Nigerian dwarf.

Clover

Born into the herd on September 1, 2013, along with her sestra, Precious. Daughter of Bailey. Clover’s horns grow back, and her coat is black with white markings and accents. Current best guess (we never saw the sire): Pygmy.

Precious

Born into the herd on September 1, 2013, along with her sestra, Clover. Daughter of Bailey. One of the infamous “red bandana” goats. Precious’ horns grow back, and her coast is black with white throughout and white accents. Current best guess (we never saw the sire): Pygmy.

atho

Born into the herd on December 21, 2013, along with his sister, Winter. Son of Duchess and either Chester or Lefty. Huggable. Atho’s horns grow back, and his coat is black. Atho also has wattles. Current best guess: Saanen or Sable/Pygmy cross.

Winter

Born into the herd on December 21, 2013, along with her brother, Atho. One of the infamous “red bandana” goats. Winter’s horns grow back, and her coat is black. Daughter of Duchess and either Chester or Lefty. Current best guess: Saanen or Sable/Pygmy cross.

Juniper

Birthday unknown. Joined in March of 2014, and was with us until she passed away in September of 2019.
